Antimicrobial Activity of the Essential Oil of Phlomis Bracteosa
نویسنده
چکیده
The essential oil was isolated from the aerial parts of Phlomis bracteosa Royle ex Benth., a hairy erect herb. The leaves and flowers of this species are used as carminative, stimulant and locally known as ‘Ballikotu, Calba, Salba’ in Turkish traditional medicine. The antimicrobial activity of Phlomis bracteosa was studied using well diffusion method. The activity was tested against human pathogenic bacteria and fungi at different concentrations (0.25 μg/ml, 0.125 μg/ml and 0.062 μg/ml) of the essential oil.

Analysis of the Fatty acid Composition of Phlomis bracteosa oil by Gas Chromatography - mass spectrometer
The Phlomis bracteosa oil constituents of methyl ester derivatives of fatty acids were analyzed using Gas Chromatography coupled to mass spectrometer. The results obtained containing the saturated as well as unsaturated fatty acids of P. bracteosa oils. A total of 18 different components were identified and quantified. Methyl ester of octadecadienoic acid was found in high concentration 6.88 %,...
متن کاملBiomimetic synthesis of antimicrobial silver nanoparticles using in vitro-propagated plantlets of a medicinally important endangered species: Phlomis bracteosa.
In vitro-derived cultures of plants offer a great potential for rapid biosynthesis of chemical-free antimicrobial silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by enhancing their phytochemical reducing potential. Here, we developed an efficient protocol for in vitro micropropagation of a high-value endangered medicinal plant species, Phlomis bracteosa, in order to explore its biogenic potential in biomimetic sy...
متن کاملChemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Algerian Phlomis bovei De Noé subsp. bovei.
The chemical composition of essential oil obtained by steam distillation of dried aerial parts of Phlomis bovei De Noé subsp. bovei collected from Algeria, was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Seventy five constituents (corresponding to 86.37% of the total weight) were identified. The main components were: germacrene D, beta-caryophyllene, beta-bournonene, thymol and hexahydrofarnesyl acetone. Further...
